A small story written by Spencer Johnson that takes less than 1 hour to read can change the way of thinking about the changes happening in the everyday life.

It is the story of two mice, named Sniff and Scurry and two little people, Hem and Haw. They all have passion for cheese. Everyday they spent time in the Maze looking for their own special cheese. The mice Sniff and Scurry used trial and error method to of finding cheese. They didn’t worry about any other things as they have the brain of mice. Once the cheese at a place is over they will move to another corner in the maze not bothering this change.

But the little people, Hem and Haw are of the human brains, have the ability to think. They are not adaptable le to change. They are sometimes get confused by their beliefs and emotions. Once the cheese was over at one corner, they were not ready to find new cheese unlike the mice Sniff and Scurry, who got new cheese as soon as the old one was over. Little people waited for the new cheese thinking that some one will supply cheese for them. But they never got what they wanted. Finally Haw went in searching of new cheese alone leaving Hem in the old cheese place. Haw got new experience that tells new lessons, finally new delicious cheese.

Here cheese is the metaphor for what we want to have in life. It may be a job, a relationship, money, a big house, freedom, health, recognition, or even an activity. Maze is the background where we spent our time looking for what we want.

The story tells,

1. Change happens, they keep moving the cheese.

2. Monitor the change, smell the cheese often so you know, when it is getting old.

3. Adapt to change quickly, the quicker you let go off old cheese, sooner you find new cheese,

4. Movement in a new direction helps you find new cheese.

PURA, Provision of Urban amenities in Rural Areas, is an idea of Hon. President A P J Abdul Kalam to fulfill the vision 2020, by making India a developed nation through the improved quality of the rural life.

As we know, villages are the heart of the nation. The main idea of PURA is to provide an opportunity for entrepreneurship and employment. Provision of PURA will generate large number of enterprises leading to employment generation in those areas. President tells students should start thinking of what sort of industry or service they can creat in a village cluster of their choice, which can generate employment opportunities for many and deliver value added products. Education system should also highlight the importance of entrepreneurship and prepare the students to get oriented towards setting up enterprises which will provide creativity, freedom, and the ability to generate wealth.

Once the PURA scheme gets operated there will be plenty of opportunities for the youth. Economic growth in the rural areas will certainly drive India towards developed nation in 2020.
